...high-energy ultraviolet radiation. One effect of that radiation would have been to knock apart hydrogen atoms, thus destroying their ability to block light. That process is known as reionization, and those stars, forming perhaps 100 million years into the Dark Ages, or roughly at the era's midpoint, might have rendered the universe transparent on their own if they had lived long enough. But unlike the sun, which has survived 5 billion years so far and should live another 5 billion, those stars lasted only a paltry million years. If the first stars formed 100 million years after...

...surprisingly intricate role playing game based on the film that you can play at home. There's no indication how long it took Deacon Blues - if that is his real name - to create the game, but he does have one thing right: "The snakes are always released at the midpoint of a trans-oceanic flight. This is a necessary rule, as otherwise the pilot could just land the plane and get rid of the snakes." Genius, pure genius...

Black Swan Green proceeds (more in the manner of a scrapbook than a thriller) through the seasons of the year, and then, exactly at the midpoint of the novel, Jason stumbles upon an exotic old lady--a Belgian Miss Havisham--who throws open the doors on an alien world of poetry and music and Continental panache (everything forbidden to an English boy). Suddenly, as in the works of Thomas Pynchon...

Passing the midpoint of the season, the Harvard men’s volleyball team isn’t finishing games like it wants to be finishing its season—with a focused crunch-time attitude. Following what has been a disturbing season-long trend, the Crimson failed to finish games strongly down the stretch and was swept, 3-0 (30-23, 30-25, 30-26) on Friday evening at Springfield College at the Blake Arena in Springfield, Mass. “We can’t close matches this year,” junior Dave Fitz said...

...These are not real people—they’re simply archetypes of modern New Yorkers. With these uninteresting and overly philosophical characters, there’s not much with which the actors can work. Streep—whose character does not serve any real purpose after the midpoint of the film—does use her clever comedic timing to depict Lisa’s delectable character nuances. However, Streep’s lack of physical comedy limits her full embodiment of the often-frazzled Lisa. Likewise, Thurman’s radiant glow works well in the beginning...
