The first event was the single scull race for the Cleveland cup, over a mile and a half course and return, with a turn. C. O. Gill, '89, and W. H. Butler, '90 S., were the contestants. Butler lead from the start, and gradually increased the distance between himself and Gill, who was handicapped by a defective oar.
