Dassin's erratic direction of actors produces some mixed results: Morris Car-novsky's generalized flourishes as a once-happy Greek, Lee Cobb's flabby, badly timed portrait of a marketeer, Millard Mitchell's hard-bitten acting of a tired truck driver.
