...Morrison to synthesize his diverse influences into music unique both instrumentally and lyrically. There was also a time when he would open an album with a song that was AM dynamite, your "Moondances," "Dominos," "Wild Nights," and "Jackie Wilson Saids." No more. Goodbye as well to Tuppelo Honey's mindless bliss, and, pretty as it was, that may not be so bad. These are troubled times, y'know...
...your editorial in the May 30 issue concerning the conspicuous deficiencies in the CHUL's housing policies. I was equally struck by the remarkable similarity between the objections you raised -- among them the neglect of individual freedom and preference, the unpopularity of said policies among the persons affected, the mindless arbitrariness of the quota system, Aand the futility and general undesirability of the "ineffective social engineering" perpetrated by "bureaucratic manipulators" -- and the arguments advanced by those of us who are opposed to forced busing of students to achieve racial "balance" in primary and secondary public schools in the United States...

To recall these alien creatures from their hideous hiding places (the arctic wastes, unfathomable submarine chasms, New Eng land), the intrepid have but to practice rituals recorded in dusty, blasphemous old tomes like the Necronomicon of the mad Arab Abdul Alhazred...
...rebellious students who took to the barricades in Paris, Rome and Berlin in the spring of 1968. Essentially romantics, those earlier revolutionaries took their inspiration from Berkeley and Columbia. If they carried the red flag of Marxism, they seemed to pledge their allegiance to the black flag of mindless upheaval and anarchy...
