There are some fine flying scenes in Bombardier, and its generally muscular tone compares favorably with that of such weak, routine productions as Aerial Gunner. But Bombardier must compete with no less beautiful flying sequences in at least a half-dozen other U.S. films, and with the British minor masterpiece Target for Tonight (TIME, Nov. 3, 1941), which makes most flying films before and since seem superfluous. They Will Not Be Easy. Nearly everyone supposed that the invasion was to begin with the seizure of Italy's western Mediterranean islands, Pantelleria, Sicily and Sardinia. There was an impression that this preliminary would be a rather minor operation, hardly in keeping with the great Allied convoys seen on their way into the Mediterranean, or with the supposed strength of the Allied forces in North Africa.* Nothing in the nature of the islands, or in the record of this war to date, indicates that the operation will be easy. Its chief uses then were in the manufacture of plastics and as an ingredient in an antiseptic for the urinary tract...

And his subject is of a dignity which, if approached with these abilities, makes excellent poetry unavoidable and great poetry possible...
Whenever we lecture to ourselves this way (editorial "we") we take ourselves too seriously and usually suffer a minor mental breakdown in two or three days. So tomorrow night, after having given ourselves this lecture, we're laking time off to attend the dance for Midshipmen at the liasty Pudding Club at 2000. We understand that it's just fine to bring along a wife or sweetheart, but we're going stag because we understand that Wellesley will be well represented...
