Yelena S. Mironova ’10 thinks that if everyone always said what they thought, the world would be a huge New York subway station, and no one would like that. Polite half-statements are the kool-aid that keeps everyone’s tongues as bright as their spirits, and their minds blissfully unaware of their neighbor’s intentions to step on their head in the climb up the social/academic/banking ladder.
