The main station at Arequipa controls many meteorological posts in the neighboring country. The most important of these is situated on the summit of the volcano El Misti, 19200 feet above the level of the sea. At this high post there has recently been set up an automatic meteorograph which runs without care for months at a time. This forms a complete chain of stations, the most perfect in the world, reaching from Mollendo on the sea coast across the Andes...
