Here is the way one survivor tells it. When Larry Gene Ashbrook walked into the church sanctuary with his guns--a 9-mm semiautomatic and a .380-cal. one--he paused. He had already started a shooting spree outside that left two dead. But once inside he was approached by one of the teens who had been singing along with a Christian rock 'n' roll praise band. What the youngster offered the black-jacketed killer was heaven, saying, "You need Jesus." Ashbrook, 47, answered, "It's all bulls___, what you believe!" It was only then that he opened...

...District Judge Walter Smith Jr. once logistics are worked out. Smith is committed to opening the evidence to public scrutiny--against the advice of the Justice Department. Documentary filmmaker Michael McNulty has already examined some of the material. Last week he told TIME that a second pair of 40-mm pyrotechnic projectiles may have been used at Waco. The devices, he says, were fired as the others were--from grenade launchers--but unlike the two that the FBI admitted were fired at a concrete bunker, this second pair passed through the wooden main building of David Koresh's compound...

By aggressively treating folks whose readings exceed the normal limit of 140/90 mm Hg at rest, physicians have prevented millions of premature deaths and untold suffering. But it looks as if we've stopped getting the message. A national health survey released two years ago showed that blood-pressure rates are no longer falling; at the same time, the incidence of stroke has started to rise...

...event in the contemporary art world, and a more unlikely looking event would be hard to find than the newest installment in his projected five-part "Cremaster" series--the first three done as videos and now the latest, and perhaps grandest, finished as a full-scale 35-mm film. Never one for the obvious or linear, Barney has dropped this piece into the sequence as Cremaster 2. On view at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minn., through Oct. 17, the 79-min. film and the morgue-cold installation of objects that accompanies it (a mirrored saddle, miniature mountains done...
