Even Sweden and Finland, long defenders of high taxes and socialism for the greater good, have decided to start charging non-European Union students tuition to study in their countries. "There is a huge debate in Sweden now about tuition fees," says Robin Moberg, vice chair of the Swedish National Union of Students. "On the one hand, the government has said foreign students shouldn't be supported by our taxes, but our argument has been that higher education is fundamentally a part of society...
...Jens Moberg, the head of Better Place Denmark, says the company is aiming to have the first cars on the road in Denmark by the second half of 2011. Ulvaeus, adapting the Moberg novels - which had served as the source for two popular Swedish films in the '70s, The Emigrants and The New Land - also had a radical notion: for the first time in his career, he'd write his lyrics in his native language...
...conjures a stout machine boss wearing a porkpie hat and chomping on a stogie - not a whip-thin black guy trying to quit smoking. Nor was the Chicago machine an ingredient in Obama's political rise. "He didn't rely on the machine for his success," says David Moberg, who has covered Chicago politics closely as a longtime writer for alternative magazine In These Times. "When he ran for the state senate, Congress and the U.S. Senate, he was opposed by the party organization...
