Professor Kilson, a noted scholar, concedes that the "black solidarity" activism of 1969-75 resulted in the revision of objectively racist policies at Harvard. Are not these revisions extremely important to the University as a whole, as both a reflection of and a model for corresponding societal change? With solidarity, power can be used for constructive and responsible ends...
...Quebec, Lafleur has succeeded Richard and Beliveau as a folk hero, the stuff of little boys' dreams. Shy and something of a loner, he is to Coach Bowman "a model of a superstar." Adds Bowman: "Guy never lets up, never tries to pull rank. And, for all his talent, he never stops trying to improve." While other players wait in line during shooting drills, Lafleur circles restlessly beside them, honing his turns, devising a new move, or flicking the occasional errant puck toward the goal. ...COME-ON was irresistible. Polanski, the peep shows--everybody's been hot about the subject of sex and children. Everbody's been even hotter about Brooke Shields, the twelve-year-old model with the face of a twenty-year-old who plays the lead in Pretty Baby. and based on his previous work, French director Louis Malle seemed like the perfect candidate to tackle the subject--child prostitution in early 20th-century New Orleans. Almost as if he had omitted the word "not" from a quotation, Emmerich represented DeVore as saying something 180 degrees the opposite of one of the lecture's main points. Afterwards, several listeners complimented DeVore on his delivery of one of the most anti-sexist lectures they'd ever heard...
...this production sizzles, from maestro/pianist Dan Ullman's orchestra to Phyllis Zinicola's tasteful, evocative costumes, individual details are harder to cite than they would be in a lesser show: What is outstanding in a production in which everything stands out? Cindy Ruskin's multi-level set is a model of attractive, well-balanced simplicity (and of course it only seems simple; a set like this must have required tremendous work to devise and build), with carry-on pieces of furniture kept to a minimum. This, combined with highly efficient stagehands, results in scene changes that frequently finish well ahead...
