...Worst hit Monday was Tokyo's Nikkei index, whose 6.4% slide to 7,162.9 points marked its lowest level since 1982. Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down 12.7%, its biggest single-session drop in 17 years. Other Asian indices suffered more modest declines, but all were down besides South Korea's Kospi, which was up a modest 0.8% due mostly to an interest rate...

What ensues is a regeneration drama, but unlike many movies in that often sentimental and melodramatic vein, its scale is modest and understated. Juliette needs a job. She also needs an apartment of her own. And perhaps (she hardly dares think about this), a man. But she's a marked woman. None of these goals are easy for an ex-con to attain. There certainly have to be easier ways to score a VIP ticket to a political rally. Standing in the modest crowd of a few hundred who showed up downtown to hear Joe Biden on Friday morning was a shy, freckle-faced young woman wearing a white coat against the chill. She had received an invitation from the campaign the night before to be here. That's because Chaylee Cole, an 18-year-old student at Fairmont State University, has become a celebrity of sorts. Last week, she was fired from her part-time job as a telemarketer when she refused...
