Next month three ballads co-written by the rookie media mogul appear on Intimacy, a new album by Bruce Roberts (the very same singer who made his living back in the 1970s as the musical voice of Danny Partridge on The Partridge Family TV show). Time Warner is still moving toward an agreement to buy Turner Broadcasting, but negotiators expect to take several days to resolve last-minute issues. It might be longer, reports business writer Barbara Rudolph, if cable mogul and key Turner board member John Malone doesn't like the way $8.5 billion media merger develops. "Malone's Telecommunications Inc. is a rival of Time Warner. Malone can either make this deal or prevent it from happening." They have no way to effectively control what their children...

...probably be as leery as anyone else about the notion of privatizing Social Security? "Maybe," says Michael Steinhardt, the hedge-fund guru who chairs the Progressive Foundation, which will publish the manifesto. Steinhardt is one of about two dozen wealthy Democrats behind the project, a roster that includes entertainment mogul Barry Diller; investment bankers Steve Rattner, Felix Rohatyn and Barrie Wigmore; and entrepreneurs Mitch Hart, who started Electronic Data Systems with Ross Perot, and Sandy Robertson, who assembled much of the California support so vital to Clinton's '92 drive...
