...Louis had its turn. The Arts and Educational Council of Greater St. Louis may lack an acronym (AECOGSL being plainly impossible), but the council, representing nine different cultural and educational organizations, put on the most imaginative auction to date. The scene was a basement cafeteria in the new Monsanto Co. headquarters designed by Vincent Kling; the basement's rugged concrete walls were turned into a castle keep by the addition of bright banners, shields and coats of arms. The theme of the auction was Camelot. Up for bids were dozens of items calculated to tempt the fantasies...
Died. Edgar Monsanto Queeny, 70, president (1928-43) and board chairman (1943-60) of Monsanto Co., the nation's third biggest chemical maker after Du Pont and Union Carbide; of coronary thrombosis; in Ladue, Mo. Other sources also seem promising. Increasing amounts of sulfur are being reclaimed from "sour" natural-gas pools in Canada and in France. Snaith recently designed the interior of a new Wanamaker's at King of Prussia, Pa., is planning a marina-office-motel complex in Connecticut and a vacation-house development in Vermont. Last week Fairchild-Hiller commissioned the firm to design the interiors for its twin...
...bargain rentals have attracted scores of prominent customers, among them, General Motors, General Foods, A.T. & T., Boeing, Monsanto, Aerojet-General, Mobil and Sinclair Oil. The scheme involves merely a financial juggle, and the equipment is often picked by the user to fit his own needs. Strange as it seems, computer makers regard the leasing companies as welcome intruders, partly because their purchases help meet the manufacturers' need for vast amounts of cash to pay for research and development. IBM, with 70% of the U.S. computer market, dares not use its size to crush the dis count lessors, because...
