...walked to the front of the stage and declared: "I can't understand someone who is burning his own country and abducting his own people. Not being able to take care of your own people, becoming the worst nightmare, doesn't make you a leader. It makes you a monster. If you live by violence, you die by violence." The crowd was stunned. Berating Robert Mugabe, the 83-year-old autocrat who has overseen his country's implosion, was an invitation to be deported, jailed, even killed. Agents from his feared Central Intelligence Organization (CIO) pushed through the crowd, making...

...extremely important topic: how Cho became what he became [April 30]. Many people in the media dismissed him as a loner and a psychopath. While there is no doubt he was both, such an attitude is not only callous (to the innocent boy he once was, not to the monster he became), it is also very dangerous. Gross ’71 provided updated statistics that drew him to the conclusion that “grade compression continues to be a concern.” His evidence: Over half of the grades awarded to undergraduates were...

...Young vets who need help finding work are getting it online. Over the past year or so, Internet forums connecting veterans to jobs have multiplied. Job boards including TheLadders and CareerBuilder have introduced channels dedicated to veterans. Monster acquired Military.com, which sponsored the Chicago event and will do 22 more fairs this year. Even the government launched a web campaign last fall called HireVetsFirst.gov. It's hard to say what effect these online job finders have had so far. But one statistic is encouraging: unemployment among veterans ages 20 to 24 is down from a recent high...
