...Observatory has issued a circular giving a series of measurements of the diameter of the bright spot surrounding the Linne crater on the moon's surface made before and after the passage of the shadow of the earth during the total lunar eclipse of October 16. The circular contains tables which show that the spot has increased in size during the last three years. Professor W.H. Pickering, who made the observations, believes that the explanation of the change in the size of the spot is that Linne is more active than heretofore, and that there is therefore surrounding it more...

During the recent eclipse of the moon Professor Pickering of the Astronomical Observatory ascertained that the bright spot around the Linne crater on the surface of the moon had increased considerably during the eclipse when deprived of the heat of the sun. Professor Pickering is inclined to the belief that this was caused by a light deposit of hoar frost. The observations bore him out, showing by the most accurate kind of micrometic measurements that the spot had increased during the time the moon was obscured. That the spot is a deposit of hoar frost and not light reflected from...

...photographic plates which were exposed at the Observatory during the eclipse of the moon on October 16 have been developed and are found to be of no value. This is because it is impossible to ascertain how long the moon was covered by clouds during the exposure. The plates might have been used for measuring the strength of the light during the eclipse, but this is now impossible...

Professor Pickering of the University Astronomical Observatory and a number of assistants were busily engaged during the eclipse of the moon last night making observations and photographs of the various phenomens. The photographic work was directed toward the discovery of any satellites to the mirror which may possibly exist. It will probably be some days before the observers will be able to compute the measurements taken last night and assert their full significance...

...University Observatory is preparing to photograph the total eclipse of the moon which will occur tomorrow night. At 10.17 the moon will enter the umbra of the earth's shadow, and at 12.19 the total eclipse will begin; this will end at 1.48 and at 3.50 the moon will again be clear of the earth's shadow. By photographs the light of the sky will be measured during the eclipse, and the light of the moon eclipsed compared with the moon's light unobscured. The observers will expose also several plates during the eclipse to discover if any hitherto undetected...
