Though the Freshmen have played but six regular games, the team has developed rapidly under Coach C. D. Moss '09. Of the games played four have been won, one tied, an 11-inning game with Hotchkiss at Lakeville, and one lost. Throughout the season the fielding has been good, especially that of the infield in spite of the fact that the team-play has been somewhat hampered by an injury to Kennedy, the regular first baseman. ...Freshman squad has been practicing regularly in the Cage for the past four weeks. When the men were called out, about 60 candidates reported to Coach C. D. Moss '09. On account of the size of the squad, fielding practice was the only work that could be done for the first two weeks. After the first cut batting practice began, as well as fielding to first base. G. Ware '08 has assisted Coach Moss in handling the squad, and under their direction a very decided improvement has been made. Practice in sliding bases has been given on certain days...
...Freshman baseball season started yesterday afternoon when 51 candidates reported to Coach C. D. Moss '09 for the first practice. Practice will be held in the Cage regularly from now on until the weather is suitable for out-door work. The Freshman pitchers and catchers have been practicing with the University battery candidates since February 1, and will continue to do so for a while longer. The other candidates will be given only light fielding work for the next few days...
