Much has been made of poll results indicating that 60 percent of Americans find homosexuality morally unacceptable. In response, the media and intellectual elite stake out the supposed moral high ground, proclaiming the other side unworthy of attention. The effect is not unlike a version of King-of-the-Mountain, only instead of conquering challengers, those at the peak shame competitors with ugly epithets. Thus, the intelligentsia use words such as "bigot" and "homosexuality morally repugnant. It is not surprising, then, that so few opponents of homosexuality are eager to step into public debate...
Arriving at Harvard I had no idea that I would be encountering anything worse than Expos. Bikes. More specifically, 28-geared high-tech ultra-light mountain bikes with front and rear shocks and tires with treads an inch deep. Astride this machine of terror rides the Harvard student. The pair then drove about a mile east of town and, on Snowy Mountain View Road, they dragged Shepard out of the car. "They tied him to a post," says police commander Dave O'Malley, and as he begged for his life, they "beat him and beat him." Perhaps as an afterthought, police say, the pair took Shepard's wallet and his shoes. The back...
