RECENT AMERICAN documentarians such as Leacock, Pennebaker, and the brothers Maysles have identified themselves with the the cinemaverite movement. According to their work, cinemaverite's "truthfulness" requires a chance meeting between subject and camera, where there is no time to bother with meaningful composition or cogent verbal statements. They assume that neither occurs in "real" life and thus has no place in "truth cinema". For them the presence of the camera (cinema) is only another aspect of truth, one which is expressed either by incessant zooms or reflections of the camera in the nearest mirror. ...desk was the only part of the office that was still in the same position. Walrus had his feet propped up on it. There was one partition remaining behind him. On it, pages were scotch-taped from movement newspapers that looked like posters. One was red with white letters: "Some people talk about the weather. Not us." Another, potentially more serious threat is that Kennedy's removal from presidential politics -at least for now-could encourage the party's far left to consider founding an independent movement. This could take the form of either a McCarthy-like revolt within the party or an effort to form a new party. At the same time, the prospects of other possible candidates are in flux: ∙HUBERT HUMPHREY. Now that Eugene McCarthy has renounced ambition for another Senate term, Humphrey will almost...
...coordinated blasts may have been the work of members of the right-wing National Resistance Movement. Like many other Greeks, they are angered by the U.S.'s continued tolerance of the military regime in Athens. The group later scattered leaflets signed by a "General Akritas," addressed to "Americans, diplomats and doublecrossers." The pamphlets warned that "the reprisals we shall inflict from now on will no longer be explosions but kidnapings and perhaps executions...
