...naive. Natural Born Killers isn't an attempt to profit from murder and mayhem, says Oliver Stone. It's a send-up of the way the tabloid press exploits violence-a claim that would be a lot more convincing if Stone would contribute to charity the multimillion dollar profits the movie earned last year. Time Warner CEO Gerald Levin, whose company produced Natural Born Killers and has put out much of the most offensive music, says that rappers like Ice-T are misunderstood: when Ice-T chants "Die, die, die, pig, die," he is not really advocating cop killing...
Apparently not. A four month intensive search for extraterrestrial life conducted by the California-based Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute (SETI) has unearthed evidence of a whole lot of suburban life, but nothing that can be called alien communications. Using Australia's biggest telescope and multimillion-dollar scanning equipment, an international team tracked 28 million radio frequencies. From a marketing standpoint, it was probably a wise move. Indeed, the couple soon found themselves presiding over a multimillion-dollar business. At the height of their popularity, Earth Shoes were available in dozens of styles: sandals, clogs, hiking shoes and deluxe, fleece-lined ankle boots. Sales peaked in 1974; in 1977, after a dispute with banks, the company was placed in bankruptcy and Earth Shoes went...
...called unmistakable signs of cancer on the Pap smears of two women. Dolores Geary and Karin Smith died of cervical cancer in 1993, years after the Pap smears were allegedly misread. Filing criminal charges in a negligence case is extremely rare. The families of both victims had already won multimillion-dollar settlements from the lab and the women's HMO, Family Health Plan...
