Despite reining in its ambitious Allston expansion plans, Harvard has continued to push forward with other campus construction and renovation projects, including at the Harvard Art Museum and Arnold Arboretum. Law School administrators decided last year to continue construction of HLS' Northwest Corner Building, in spite of University-wide efforts to cut expenditures, because the project would have been more expensive to halt than to continue, according to Law Professor and then-Interim HLS Dean Howell E. Jackson in interviews last year. Administrators did make modest changes to the plan by deciding not to demolish buildings adjacent to the expansion...
...Residency, a version of the Bubungan Dua Belas, where British residents and high commissioners in Brunei lived until Brunei achieved full independence in 1984. Some streets in Bandar Seri Begawan retain their colonial names (Pretty, Stoney, McArthur), while the wooden House of Twelve Roofs is now a museum hung with photographs feting Brunei's "special relationship" with Britain. The sections devoted to the latter are exceptional, reflecting a relatively recent acknowledgement of the importance of ethnic groups such as the San, Nama and Herero...
...first ever Stateside exhibition of pieces from the collection, entitled Where Do We Go from Here? , runs through March 14 at Miami's Bass Museum and will be a highlight of the city's winter cultural season. Organized in four key areas - urban anthropology, artist profiles, art with texts and art within art - the show features everything from conventional paintings and drawings to illuminated neon texts and installation pieces, and is an unusual offering for the Bass, which typically shows major European paintings, sculpture and tapestries in its sleek, Arata Isozaki-designed pavilion.
