...only does his music define the time and temper of the American decades in which it was made, but his singing moves those songs out of time into something indistinct, everlasting...
Finally, I'd love to have Diamond Multimedia's Rio, a portable music player ($199) that handles MP3s, a digital format that squeezes CDs down to one-tenth their normal size in megabytes. That makes them small enough to send on the Net. But thanks to a Recording Industry Association of America lawsuit that tried to ban the players--MP3 is the format of choice for audio pirates as well as many legitimate artists--everyone wants one. What makes opera run? In recent years, much of the horsepower has come from the mighty two-cylinder engine of Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, whose "Three Tenors" concerts with Jose Carreras are the most profitable road show in the modern history of classical music. Simmons' bride is 23-year-old model KIMORA LEE, host of his TV show, One World Music Beat. The two already had a modest civil ceremony in New York City. But even millionaires get wedding blues. Simmons missed a connecting flight and was briefly stranded in Puerto Rico. The wedding is expected to be quite an affair: MARTHA STEWART RSVPed; model TYRA BANKS is a bridesmaid; and Simmons' brother JOSEPH...
