...Rocker syndrome has struck again. More than platforms or ideals or issues, bitterness and ill-will continue to drive the New York Senate race. If Lazio wins, it will probably be not so much because New Yorkers embrace his vision but rather because they could not muster the strength to cast their ballot for a non-New Yorker (And let that be the least of their problems with Clinton). But this may not be such a bad thing. New York politics are interesting again. There's a real and important issue to discuss and the race is receiving attention...

...family's idea of a physical activity is discussing where to go for lunch. Actually, my daughters discuss; my husband pouts if he can't muster a majority for cheesesteak sandwiches. Perhaps I would find this behavior charming if the Surgeon General were not running around the country complaining that we are raising the most sedentary generation of children in American history, if 1 in 4 kids were not overweight or if I liked cheesesteak...

...hemorrhaging? Will doctors only prescribe the drug within the designated window of gestation? What if the drug makes its way to the black market, and women take it outside of the prescribed time frame?" Some of those issues, of course, apply to many other drugs - drugs that have passed muster with the FDA. It remains to be seen whether the agency sticks with its present, rather conservative position, or relaxes as the drug achieves a higher comfort level, both medically and politically...

Which, ultimately, is the problem with the Green Cup, and perhaps the reason why my fellow Eliotites couldn't muster the energy to reduce their power. Some things--like Easter egg hunts, synchronized swimming and especially recycling--just shouldn't be made into competitions. No matter how well-intentioned its leaders, Green Cup wrongly assumes that the most ambitious students around will compete for damn near anything--even the honor of being the best waste-reducers in school. Even Captain Planet would have a tough time getting excited for such a competition. So, while I was dismayed at our loss...
