Brown University had a narrow escape from losing its ancient Hope College and Manning Hall by fire on Tuesday afternoon. A janitor discovered a lively blaze in the basement of Hope College in a large waste-paper bin. A general alarm was sent out; but before aid arrived the fire had reached the roof.
