When Bob Hutchins became president of University of Chicago, he dubbed Douglas "the outstanding professor of law of the nation," offered him $20,000 to go to Chicago. Douglas refused because he wanted to complete his long studies in corporate reorganization and bankruptcy. A report he wrote on this subject in the Yale Law Review took the eye of Kennedy and Landis.
