Everyone knows the Titanic sank because an iceberg cut a huge gash in its side. But everybody's wrong, says a group of naval architects and marine engineers. Extensive sea-bottom photos of the ship show no gash. The real problem was the ship's steel plating, which was inherently brittle, say the experts -- even a small impact could have caused major cracks. Like so many others before, the boat was intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard, and the refugees passed the next two months in detention at the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba.
