...awarding China the 2008 Olympics as it did with the 1936 Games in Berlin [Aug. 4]. Why even mention that established architect Albert Speer, the son of Hitler's architect, contributed to the design of the event? China is not without indiscretions, but to equate the country with the Nazi regime is reprehensibly unjust. Winston Wang, Princeton...

...agrees. "There's simply no need for it," says Wolfgang Benz, head of the Berlin-based Center for Research on Antisemitism. Not only would such a learned tome "fail to add to our understanding of such things as the Holocaust or the elation with which many people followed the Nazi rule," it wouldn't even reach those supposedly benefiting from it: the man in the street. "Your average Joe just isn't interested in such a publication," Benz says. "At least, I haven't met anybody yet - in the subway or wherever - who has begged...

...event began with footage of Winston Churchill's push for resistance to the Nazi menace: "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills, we shall never surrender!" Then came footage of McCain's push for George W. Bush's re-election: "Keep that faith. Keep your courage. Stick together. Stay strong. Do not yield. Do not flinch. Stand up. ... We're Americans, and we'll never surrender!" There was a snippet from Teddy Roosevelt, then McCain, then more Churchill...
