...Farm (Sun., 5 p.m., NBCTV) is an hour-long pseudo documentary that aims at illustrating to the city viewer the grandeurs of bucolic life. The first program was just sow-sow. It originated mostly "live" from the Wilbert Landmeier farm near Cloverdale, Ill., with Country Singer Eddy Arnold on hand to greet viewers and help show the folks around the place. The cameras ranged nearly everywhere: to the dairy barn to watch the milking; to the front yard, for a talk with Mother Landmeier and her healthy youngsters; to the barnyard, where Weatherman Clint Youle spoke of the crops...
...Marriage (Thurs. 10 p.m., NBCTV) is a literate, family-situation comedy starring Broadway's talented Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy. Written by Radio Scriptwriter Ernest Kinoy, the new series looks like a transmutation of Jan de Har-tog's Broadway hit The Fourposter, in which the same couple appeared (TIME, Nov. 5, 19-51), but lacks much of the deftness of that comical production. One reason is that the first script has too much of the radio style about its dialogue, and not enough TV appeal. The few good visual touches that are used are ably exploited...
Dave Garroway Show (Fri. 8 p.m., NBCTV) is an attempt to return to the format and happy informality of the 1949-51 Garroway-at-Large show, which was telecast from Chicago. Though Garroway is using some of the same cast, technical crew and relaxed manner that he employed in the original show, he seems to have left some valuable ingredient behind in moving to Manhattan. NBC should offer a large reward for its immediate return...
Excursion (Sun. 3:30 p.m., NBCTV) is the Ford Foundation TV-Radio Workshop's half-hour for children (between 8 and 16), but since it does not talk down to children, grownups will probably like it too. Its ambition is "to wake children up, open some windows, let in some fresh air, and establish values for them." Actor Burgess Meredith, in a friendly, easygoing manner, takes the kids on a variety of jaunts which have already included a sail down the Mississippi with Huckleberry Finn (with Boxer Sugar Ray Robinson playing Jim, the slave), a visit to Harry Truman...
