...important discovery has been made at the Astronomical Observatory by means of the new 24-inch reflecting telescope obtained with the anonymous fund of 1902. This telescope has been used in measuring the light from three of the variable stars discovered recently near the nebula of Orion by means of photographic plates. These measurements have proved conclusively that the light from these faint stars varies, a fact which heretofore had been unestablished. Before the telescope was completed it was not expected that such accurate work would be possible, and the discovery is of interest both because it shows the progress...
...seven and one-half inch equatorial telescope lent by Mr. G. R. Agassiz '84, will be used on these evenings to show such celestial objects of general interest as are favorably situated for observation. Among those to be seen for the present are moon, the great nebula in Orion, clusters and double stars...
Preparations are being made at the Observatory for photographing the nebula of the Nova Persei. Ever since the star was discovered last February it has been growing fainter, and it is feared that if photographs are not obtained soon no further chance will be offered. Every night telescopic photographs will be taken and the time of exposure will be lengthened, as it is thought that under-exposure may account for recent failures to obtain photographs of the nebula. It is intended also to determine by the parallax method the distance and motion of the star...
