...White House has pressured some in H.R.C. to resist backing D'Amato. One way out is to endorse both candidates. But the logic of endorsing D'Amato runs this way: If a gay organization doesn't encourage Republicans who stick their neck out, why should they bother? And if H.R.C. backs a supportive Republican, wouldn't that foster a new generation of G.O.P. leaders who would respond to the more moderate politics of the G.O.P.'s growing younger and suburban base? "That party is at war with itself, and its best decision makers are not at the top," says Birch...

...participants form a motley but impressive menagerie. A yellow, diamond-headed retro pick-up leaves a black Corvette limping along behind it to the finish line. Lake a scene from a surreal self-help movie, "Impatience" is neck and neck with the blue and red "Mid-Life Crisis." The motorcycles--mostly garishly-colored Japanese makes interspersed with the occasional squat, old Harley--are faster than most of the cars, occasionally breaking the 10-second barrier, and their starts are more impressive, the drivers in tight leather racing suits rising up and leaning far out over the handlebars like sprinters before...

Toys "R" Us has also hurt itself over the past year, analysts say, with neck-snapping shifts in strategy and laggard execution of the blocking and tackling aspects of retailing, such as controlling inventory and providing polite and knowledgeable service. The store's inventory, she said, often surpasses $1 million. Multiply that by the 1,462 Toys "R" Us stores, and you see the scope of the problem...

...screen curves and stretches upward on all sides until the panels catch up with each other and meet harmoniously in a perfect half-sphere, forming a deceivingly delicate, pearly shell that encompasses and dominates the audience for the entire show. The viewer might be tempted to complain about neck strain, but the seats do recline. Besides, when the movie actually starts, one will realize that this is the only way to be surrounded by an infinite sky, and feel the urge to fly or fall right into...

While not as informative as a National Geographic special on a mediocre day, and not quite as entertaining as a decent feature film (which has a comparable admission price), Amazon still offers a fun alternative to staying home. It is worth both the time and temporary discomfort to the neck, even if only because it is an IMAX show. It might not be educational in the strictest sense, but that is not the point. Like most, if not all IMAX pictures, Amazon is all about being swallowed up by a world of vivid color and humbled...
