...Standish Hall hockey team defeated Smith yesterday afternoon at the Arena by a score of 2 to 1. The game was fast and hard-fought throughout, in spite of the fact that neither team had been on the ice for over two weeks. The Standish forward line played a particularly aggressive game, and only several excellent stops by Hollister prevented a higher score. The Smith team braced in the second half, when Long-wood scored on an individual rush. Wagoner and Ames played the best game for Standish...
...Phillips and Doty were both in condition to play and the men put up a much harder contest as a result. After drill in passing and shooting, the University line with the substitute defense had a ten-minute scrimmage with the second-string linemen backed by the regular defense. Neither side was able to score, although both teams played fairly good hockey. Lather the regular University seven played the substitutes a hard fifteen-minute game which resulted in a 1 to 1 tie. Townsend scored for the University and Fisher for the second-string men. In squad seemed to have...
...college ranks today. In the forward line, the two center men, Phillips and Townsend, are the life of the attack, but it is doubtful if they form a stronger combination than Captain Sweeney and Dickey of the Elis. The wings are the weak point of the University seven, neither Cunningham, Curtis, Wanamaker or Baldwin being strictly first-class calibre. The Yale wings, MacDonald and Murray, are both fast aggressive players, and it is here that the University team is clearly over-balanced...
...first base, catcher Wall, and second baseman Bolton. Rhoads's loss will be felt keenly, as no candidate gives promise of filling this vacancy. The most likely first baseman is Scully, who played on the 1917 freshman team, while Haviland '15, from the second team also might be developed. Neither is up to Rhoads's ability, however. Wall's position behind the bat can be filled by Salmon, a senior, who had some experience last spring. Driggs, from the freshman nine is probably the best catcher in college, as he is a stronger batter than Salmon. Other catchers are Purves...
Peacock scored the first goal of the game in 2 minutes, 19 seconds on a forced drive through the University defense. For the next five minutes neither side showed any team-work and the puck surged back and forth on individual rushes. When the game had progressed for 7 minutes and 16 seconds, however, Phillips broke loose and started for the Princeton goal. He passed to Townsend who recovered and snapped the puck past Cohu. A minute and a half later Phillips scored the second goal for the University on an individual rush. Townsend scored the third goal...
