...order of which Mr. Bogart was Head Rat), is in the movie as beautiful and talented as she ever was and is. She rats on him on occasion, but, I can assure future viewers, in the end she is all right--with viewers and Bogey too. She is a nice kid who falls in with a bad crowd. In fact, the only thing seriously wanting here is a chase of some substantial dimension, and I feel it my duty to say so. Otherwise, the movie is a totality of experience, and will bring much viewing pleasure...

Since the average "reader" of the Yearbook gets no further than the pictures, it seems worthwhile to begin a review of Three Twenty Two with a few words about the book's uneven level of photographic achievement. The high-points are some very nice portraits of professors and several pictures best described as "moody." There are many candidates for the low-point, but the worst would seem to be the PBH photographs that appear to have been taken through a bowl of split pea soup. Author Frisch's solution is an ingenious blend of religion and psychology. He argues his case with subtlety and a nice sense of drama (he is a playwright as well as a novelist). The only difficulty readers will find in his book is that it starts off with the bang of a whodunit and then tails off into the world of Germanic near mysticism. I'm Not Stiller is already a European bestseller and has been hailed as a masterpiece; perhaps it is more accurate to describe it as the first novel since World War II that...
