What was not clear in the article was a third alternative. It is possible for Nick to pass from his state of sinfulness to an experience of the joy and purpose he describes in the "evangelist." This is not accomplished through any irrational "leap of faith." Rather, through consideration of the historical and philosophical evidence, he can quite reasonably come to accept Jesus Christ both as a real historical person and as the living master of his life.
