WASHINGTON, D.C.: Attorney General Janet Reno announced the U.S. made 34 arrests in five cities Friday to break up an international heroin smuggling ring. Working in cooperation with police in Thailand, France and Britain, federal prosecutors and agents took almost a year to build their case and make arrests. Wearing a body wire and tape recorder, he eventually made direct contact with some Nigerians who tried to recruit him to go to Turkey for heroin and to Brazil for cocaine. Italian and Turkish police following his leads arrested seven people in Turkey and seized 4.5 kg of heroin. "We don't view this as a Navy problem or a Naples problem," says Spann. "This group of Nigerians is targeting U.S. personnel...

...folk-pop sound isn't a watering down of rock but a maturation of the form, connecting pop to its past and giving it a future among adults. Seal, born in London to Nigerian parents, admits that he began singing so his "distant" father would notice him. With his Unplugged show, Seal should win the ear of many more adults. --C.J.F...
