...hint that the on-camera reunion was just a first step toward a resumption of the old partnership. Locked in a $20 million suit over their predivorce show-business commitments, the two are likely to settle their legal dispute by getting their stage act together for some concert and nightclub appearances. Explained Cher to the Tonight Show audience: "We get along really fine; better now than we ever used to." Stay tuned...
Bowling. Across the river and up towards Newton a little ways, on Soldiers Field Road, rests Sammy White's Brighton Bowl and Sammy's corresponding nightclub. This last, a posh spot often featuring such acts as Dick Doherty and the Majority, and the Shittons isn't much unless you're a devoted Swinging Single--the bowling alley, however, is a different story. It's not the best in Boston, but it's the best near Harvard, and it has 48 lanes, candlepins and tenpins, and a great many pinball machines. The best times to bowl there is on Friday nights...
KENNEDY ASSASSINATION. The commission dismissed recurring theories that the CIA was somehow involved in the assassination of President John Kennedy. The report rejects as "farfetched speculation" the claim that the agency had connections with either Assassin Lee Harvey Oswald or Nightclub Owner Jack Ruby, who killed Oswald two days after Kennedy's death. As evidence, proponents have cited newsmen's photographs of three men taken into custody by Dallas police after the assassination...
After all those concerts with the blue-jeans set, Singer John Denver is finally heading for Tuxedo Junction. For one week in August, the Rocky Mountain balladeer will make his first major nightclub appearance-on the same bill with Frank Sinatra at Lake Tahoe. "I've only seen him perform on television, but I've heard others say he wrote the book," says Denver. "I'm looking forward to learning a great deal that week." The branchwater-and-bourbon combination will feature Denver singing to the supper crowd and Ol' Blue Eyes performing at midnight. "There...
Timid Soul. Her one imperious achievement of the evening is to act as if she were the only person onstage. Since she delivers her part of the dialogue like nightclub one-liners, she might as well be alone. As Hedda's sinister admirer Judge Brack, Timothy West is as sensually menacing as a puff of cigar smoke. If Patrick Stewart's Luvborg has "vine leaves in his hair," they are not Greek but plastic. As Hedda's husband, a timid soul and a baffled marital masochist who dotes on books, Peter Eyre salvages the only acting honors...
