A divisive floor fight for the nomination would be a disaster for the Democrats and would undoubtedly produce a nominee so wounded by his own party that chances for victory in November would be nil. Guerrero's chances of winning an outright majority are virtually nil. In the 1982 Constituent Assembly elections, the P.C.N. took only 18.6% of the vote, vs. 40.7% for the Christian Democrats and 29.1 % for ARENA.
