...president of HBS section E, one of ten 90-person subdivisions of the business school student body. As a student leader, he knows all about the interplay between social life and academic life. HBS students frequent pricey Harvard Square haunts like Daedalus, Grafton Street, and Noir. But in addition to the bar-hopping, the members of section E regularly host other events like dinner parties and wine tastings. The well-planned and often-lavish events demonstrate the importance of socializing at HBS, where the person next to you at the bar might be the next CEO of a Fortune...
...actual bulb shining behind it, not the case with plasmas and regular old tube TVs. Because of this always-on bulb, parts of a scene that were supposed to be pitch black used to look more like a charcoal gray, or even a deep blue. Bad news for film-noir lovers, for sure. Both TVs had tolerably good black levels, but side by side, the Sharp was better, exhibiting visibly higher contrast than the Sony...

That sells short the sullen passion that binds sooty engineer Jean Gabin to kittenish femme fatale Simone Simon. An implacable film noir before noir was cool, this is atypical but essential Renoir, and a reminder that subtitles are no hindrance when a great director paints in the visual language of film...
Pixar may follow its summer vehicle Cars with Ratatouille, a tale about a rat who lives in a fancy French restaurant. Little is known of future projects, but Incredibles auteur Brad Bird has long wanted to direct a noir-style film, possibly based on Will Eisner's comic The Spirit. Meanwhile, creative kingpin John Lasseter, who has a deep affinity for traditional 2-D cel animation, is expected to revive that form in some way. He may even jump-start the long-dormant world-music spin-off of Fantasia, titled Musicana...
