Oklahoma. In a Democratic primary runoff, Thomas Pryor Gore was nomi- nated for Senator, onetime Representative (1913-17) William Henry ("Alfalfa Bill") Murray for Governor over rich but politically inexperienced opponents. Nominee Gore, accidently blinded as a child, entered the Democratic party via Populism and Texas, was Oklahoma's first Senator (1907-21). Defeated because of his anti-War position, he continued to live in Washington, practiced law there, lobbied a little.
