...Wall Street, he would be called a Mover. So the fact that this 19-year-old drug dealer decides to launch a campaign to become a New York City councilman doesn't seem a stretch. Especially since his mentors are themselves unconventional--Spencer Throckmorton, a black rabbi, and Inez Nomura, a Japanese-American activist. Beatty's second novel (The White Boy Shuffle was his first) is like an extended rap song, its characters recounting struggle and survival with the bravado of hip-hoppers. ...look who's behind the wheel now. The new owner of the world's most admired beer is South African Breweries, which last October bought a controlling interest in Pilsner Urquell and Radegast, the Czech Republic's two top brewers, from investment bank Nomura International in a $321 million deal. The company has concentrated on increasing its market share in Western Europe. It has gained ground in Britain--one of Budweiser's largest markets outside...

The numbers are staggering -- the biggest firm, Nomura Securities, lost $1.76 billion and plans to lay off a fifth of its employees -- and of course it can always get worse. But optimists hope that a painful lesson has been learned. This might be where the healing starts...
...result, from $3.36 to $12 on the London Stock Exchange. "For a while it looked like Psion was finished, but by getting together with the dominant players in the telecom industry and partnering with them, they have given themselves a lifeline," says Patrick Yau, an analyst with Nomura Securities in London...
