...With his third feature in ten years, Morel seems intent on creating an aura of mystery for himself. He refuses to answer questions in interviews about his motivations, and when the interviews are conducted in his native French, he does not allow his words to be subtitled for non-French speakers. Though I am loathe to admit it, Morel’s antics intrigue me. As I watched “From Paris With Love,” the sprawling, undisciplined nature of the film’s themes made me increasingly interested in how Morel would explain his genre...

...Here in France there is a Stepford Wives social pressure that is unimaginable elsewhere. I have lived here since 2006 and am aware of female peer pressure to conform to images considered permissible, laudable and responsible for women. Due to my traveling as an aid worker, being non-French and divorced, all sorts of labels are thrown at me, making it impossible to do almost anything alone. How sad when women have laudable goals and yet members of their own sex want to harm them with their own parochial meanness. Good for you, Ms. Dati, as you struggle to defend...

After learning about the intricacies of prostitution rings by busting them, Eliot Spitzer sought out a girlfriend experience with a prostitute who is an aspiring singer with a MySpace account. He would have been more discreet making love to a screen live on CNN, as John King did. The mayor of Detroit communicated with his mistress by text-messaging, a form of communication so obviously insecure that the President is not allowed to do it and teenagers...

...celebrated his 20th year at the helm of L'Oreal. He went to work for the company in 1969, fresh out of management school in France. He became CEO in 1984 and chairman in 1988. Once in charge, he set about globalizing beauty. He is one of the few non-French to thrive in what remains an insular corporate culture. Along the way, he has transformed a once modest French firm into the world's largest cosmetics company, whose products sit on shelves from Melbourne to Moscow. But he has proved most adept at staying one step ahead...

...star. New Takes On Tradition one common complaint is that the Guide favors traditional French cuisine. "Chauvinistic," says food critic Egon Ronay. "It has always been like that." At first glance, the 2002 list suggests that little has changed. More than half of Europe's three-star restaurants are in France; of those that aren't, many serve French or French- inspired cuisine. In this year's class, only Berasategui's Basque-based fare at his eponymous restaurant in Lasarte-Oria, Spain is clearly non-French. And three of the chefs - Helder, Le Squer and Savoy - trained in old-fashioned...
