...brief history of the present Christmas allowance will refute such an accusation. Until within recent years there was no special consideration for the man who lived at a distance. That one required a longer time to reach home than did another, was deemed a regrettable, but none the less unavoidable fact. Then, because a great number of men were prevented from reaching home for Christmas Eve, the Faculty made an attempt to obtain the present allowance, pleading the universal importance of that day. After considerable opposition the Corporation and the Overseers sanctioned the move...

...what does the actual playing of the game amount to? For one or two days in the week perhaps twenty or twenty-five minutes of scrimmage during the earlier part of the season--in the latter part none whatever--for the rest all preliminaries, signals, talks. The danger of physical injury to the players is too great to allow them to learn the game by playing it. It must be taught them by lecture, not laboratory methods...

Another innovation in subway construction is a system of underground sidewalks connected with the tunnel but outside the entrance gates at the Central square station. After the preliminary practice, the team lined up against the Boston Hockey Club, and played a fifteen-minute game in which the University team scored two goals to their opponents' none. The Boston players were noticeably superior in stick-handling but the University forwards were faster and often carried the puck through the opposing line and free of it. Huntington's defensive work was prominent in the University line and did much toward keeping the puck in the opponents' territory. The new defensive combination seemed to work well...
