...None of this is to say that Passions is devoid of promise. Indeed, there are flashes of a certain kind of genius in the first episode alone, which has a self-exiled Sheridan Crane (McKenzie Westmore) in France visiting Sacre Coeur every day to mourn the loss of her best friend. That best friend was Princess Diana, who we now learn was on her way to visit Sheridan when she met her ill fate in that Parisian tunnel. The show doesn't make clear why this information never surfaced on Hard Copy...

...None of this argues for a return to an all-butter diet. Margarines may not lower LDL levels much, but lower them they do. What's more, food scientists in Europe have developed margarines free of trans-fatty acids, and these are slowly making their way to grocery shelves in the U.S. Until they're in wide use here, it's up to manufacturers to give consumers the food labels they need--and it's up to consumers to read them...

One spot is as good as another; the chances are always essentially...

...None of these are remotely true. Movies don't always follow the books on which they're based, but in this case anyone able to track down the novel from which the movie has been rather faithfully adapted by Kubrick and co-writer Frederic Raphael would have been more in the know. Titled Traumnovelle (Dream Story), it was first published in 1926 by Arthur Schnitzler, a Viennese playwright, physician and friend of Freud's, and has been available in paperback in the U.S. since 1995. Like a lot of the novels on which good movies are based...
