...Dessert is a selection of homemade sorbets, our favorite the thrilling chili-flavored offering. Made with tiny pri kee noo chilies, the spark behind Thai cuisine's fire, the sorbet lives a life on the tongue. It enters the mouth cool, heats up to a pleasant buzz and then warms the throat and belly on its way down. Much like a meal at Betelnut. Dinner for two with starters, dessert and a bottle of wine will cost $100. Betelnut is located at 46/27 Chaweng Boulevard, Soi Colibri. Call (66-77) 413 370 for reservations...

...spin on the friendly rivalry: "If Fred Astaire is the Cary Grant of dance, I?m the Marlon Brando." Oh, not really. It?s true that, like Brando, Kelly wore T-shirts and, though he came from far west of the Hudson River, spoke in a working class Noo Yawk accent. But he was stuck with that pre-1950 smile, the professional good nature, the go-getting optimism that defined showbiz in the 20th century?s first half. "Noo Yawk Ciddy--this is the place!" he rasps with the naked brio of someone who owns the joint. It's good to be the mayor. And, for Pappas, it's necessary to connect with voters in a physical, almost sexual way. A handshake and a brisk "How'm I doin'?", a la former Mayor Ed Koch, is not enough. Pappas has to bear...

...radio within weeks,'' he said. Talk like that makes record execs very nervous. They know their product can also be vulnerable to boycotts by record stores that are under pressure from consumer groups. "You can make waves, but you can't mess with retail,'' says Eric Brooks, president of Noo Trybe Records. "You need to have your album stocked in the store...
