The Village Voice's Alexander Cockburn developed a monomania for blasting Carter as a "reactionary," which is all very fine, but misrepresented his positions on the death penalty, aid to New York City and right-to-work laws, which is not. And the marshals, freezing all along the route, were good people. Almost all the people were good ones, not rotten apples.
