Levine fares immeasurably better. The two small canvasses, Nude Reclining and Two Politicians, show the painter at a maximum of cogency and sensitivity. The latter canvas happily succeeds more as a painterly statement than as a social comment. Its small size preserves at once its impact and its nuance. Advocacy can be carried off to advantage in the arts, but it has a way of corrupting all but the strongest. Some of Levine's much heralded larger canvases plead excessively where their business is to resolve. In this respect, a splendid containment and innate dignity comprise one major superiority...
Snowmen of all sexes appeared around the College. Members of the Cooperative house at 3 Sacramento St. fashioned a 12-foot statue of a nude kneeling woman which drew a neighbor's complaint. University police approved the statue, and a member of the Cambridge squad termed it "a work of art," adding "it would be a shame to tear it down." My husband Ulysses did the preparation exercises right along with...

Instead of showing reverence, people cracked seemingly typical Zen koans (problem riddles). "You look like the one who was admiring nude pictures," giggled one housewife, slamming the door in a novice priest's face. Snapped another tart-tongued woman: "Wash out your mind before I fill your bowl...
...lithe young women of the Ballets Africains troupe appeared semi-nude on the Colonial stage two nights ago. The audience gasped a little, and one dance even made something humorous of the situation, but it was apparent that women, dressed or undressed, play only a peripheral role in this show. Les Ballets Africains is primarily a man's affair, an exhibition of superbly masculine dances and rhythms. Virtuoso leaps, cartwheels, and spins follow in profusion, until the proceedings resemble some sort of idealized athletic event. Such is the spontaneity of the dancers that repetitions of these vigorous movements always seems...
