With an unusually large number of old members back, the musical clubs should have a very successful year. The Mandolin Club has already been reduced to its permanent form. It includes nineteen old members and six new men, and is probably the most advanced of the three clubs. By adding the drum, violin, etc., it has developed an orchestral form for seven or eight parts. Yesterday afternoon the Freshman eleven played against the second team in secret practice. At times the offensive work was ragged, but the defensive was good. During the line-up against the second, three goals from the field were made. A number of men were tried in different positions on the first eleven. McGrew, tackle, and Derby, halfback, were both slightly injured, but will be able to play by Saturday. The line-up of the backs and ends for Saturday's game is still undecided. The practice will probably continue to be secret for the rest of the week...

Yesterday afternoon in secret practice, the Freshman eleven played a twenty minute half against the second eleven. The defense did not show the weakness it has in the past and the offense was greatly improved. Considerable time was devoted to individual coaching and to kicking, and a number of place kicks from the 45-yard line were tried. Above the shelves is a flat, glass covered case, and above this a wing-frame capable of holding thirty-three pictures or charts.
