...starts to layer the horns over a groovy, yet still camp bassline. One has to admire the talent of the Money man: Although he does recruit various friends on drums and suchlike (including Sean Lennon on electric bass), almost everything is played by himself, from flute to nylon guitar. The album might have benefited from the presence of some words (perhaps even delivered by a Beastie?) but that would have detracted from the monolithic simplicity of the groove, in which the keyboard (or Korg Triton, or arp odyssey synth, or whatever) is king...

...this spot at the base of one palm where a crude scarlet "X" slashed into the bark of the trunk is still visible. And here she knelt for the ceremony, only to feel, instead of the garland of flowers she had been expecting, the bite of a nylon rope cut into her neck...

Then Zeus transfers each precious droplet to a nearby sheet of nylon, moistens a designated spot and pivots back to the glass plates to find the next sample on its list. When Zeus is done, the nylon sheet will be spotted with a grid of about 1,000 droplets, forming what researchers call a microarray. Once the machine has created a few dozen of these arrays, they will be rolled up, inserted into glass tubes and doused with radioactive dye and genetic material from a range of human tissue types--from normal, healthy cells to diseased cells representing breast, prostate...

In a typical microarray, thousands of single-stranded gene fragments are fastened to a platform--usually a silicon or glass wafer but sometimes a nylon sheet. The finished assemblage can be as small as a postage stamp. Its purpose is to answer, as comprehensively as possible, what it is that makes one cell different from any other...

In this latest scandal, however, Firestone's replacement tires in the U.S. do not have nylon caps, except for a few Bridgestones shipped in from the parent company in Japan. Firestone argues that its tire problems are specific to one factory and not a matter of technology. Bridgestone, however, does sell the nylon cap Dueler for SUVs in the U.S. Like other nylon-fitted tires, they are higher-grade and cost $103 each, compared with just about...
