...Ward delivered his first lecture on "Modern Anthropology" last night before a large audience. He said: Anthropology is a new study which is by no means clear to the popular mind. It has as its object to give man a knowledge of himself. In early times men were disgraced as atheists who attempted investigations into the mysteries of their origin, and it was not until the middle of the eighteenth century that enough facts had been obtained on this subject to found a system of knowledge.
