...Judge W. Arthur Garrity ruled that Ellsberg must stand trial in Los Angeles when grand jury there returned indictments against him. Boudin and Nesson had sought to have the trial moved to Boston, and they had argued at various times that the government may have used illegal wiretaps to obtain evidence used in the Los Angeles indictment...
...Angeles, the Boston investigation has taken on an importance of its own. Through the probe now taking place, the government appears to be aiming for indictments of newspaper reporters and anyone else who may have helped Ellsberg distribute the documents; the charge, presumably, would be interstate transport of illegally obtained property. Nonetheless, the government prosecution has no discernible scope or pattern, and its actions leave the distinct impression that it is engaged in a "fishing expedition" to acquire information which may lead to evidence for its court case. Prosecutors are doubtless also seeking to obtain information about anti-war resistance...
Died. Nathan Voloshen, 73, the Washington fixer who turned the office of former Speaker of the House John McCormack into an influence-peddler's paradise; in Manhattan. The dapper door opener, a Maryland attorney with New York offices, later pleaded guilty to a slew of offenses, all committed without McCormack's knowledge. Among the transgressions: lobbying to obtain reduced sentences for convicted racketeers. Because he cooperated with authorities, Voloshen was given a suspended sentence...

The tax is also designed to obtain some other concessions, including bigger subsidies from U.S. allies for the maintenance of G.I.s in NATO countries and the removal of import quotas and other nontariff barriers that hurt sales of U.S. goods abroad...
Some day, it has been said, this problem will partly solve itself because more and more people will find it increasingly easy to obtain their pleasure without paying for it. Now that we have the Pill, the coed dorm and the commune, what need is there for the streetwalker, much less the bordello? So far, though, these predictions have not come true; even in societies that have long been considerably more libertarian than ours, somehow the appeal of prostitution stubbornly remains. In emancipated Sweden, where premarital sex is considered a civil right, there are very few streetwalkers nowadays, but Stockholm...
