Although reports of internal unrest are an accepted starting point of wartime propaganda, there were hints last week that this very thing might be the answer to Germany's unusual hesitation in the war. It became more & more obvious that Czechs are doing all they can to sabotage their stern protectors. Skoda's intricate machine guns have a way of being delivered with one tiny, essential part missing. Prague's milk cans have a way of leaving dairies with a tiny hole punched in them...
When every U. S. radio listener was gulping in the bulletins on World War II, just starting, Manhattan's WMCA scooped its competitors. It bought and broadcast the content of secret radio war orders from the German and British admiralties to merchantmen at sea. This was an obvious violation of the U. S. Communications Act, which guarantees the privacy of such communications. In mid-September WMCA was hauled up before FCC to show cause why its broadcasting license should not be revoked. In addition, with Macdonald sidelined or ready only for limited service, Spreyer is the nearest Crimson approach to a triple threat back. In yesterday's practice, the Sophomore booting expert put on a very pleasing passing exhibition...
From Father Coughlin's critics the cry continues: Why doesn't the Catholic Church crack down on him? The answer is obvious. The Church's ranking leaders undeniably distrust and disapprove of the radio priest, but doing something about him might leave them with a schism on their hands. But what the Church will not do, the U. S. radio industry has attempted. The new National Association of Broadcasters code, if enforced by the 51 stations constituting Father Coughlin's pickup chain, would effectively bar him from the air as a lone-ranging controversialist. One station...
