...with extreme activity-i.e. violence; repress your IKEA-fueled angst long enough and it'll explode in your face like a computer at midnight on New Year's Day 2000. Aggression seems truly to be the key to defusing the ticking time-bomb of yuppie angst. This is obvious in Fight Club: the entire movie is centered around the premise that yuppie poster boy Edward Norton finds escape from his micromanaged world only when he is pounding someone else to a pulp with his bare hands. Everything is frenetic, violent, and rough-cut in retaliation against the stuffy conformity...
...your friends will be piled up in front of the TV watching Dawson, Joey, Jen, Pacey and pals immerse themselves in a vat of teenage angst. Dawson's Creek is addictive television. It's not particularly well-written, the acting isn't great, and the storylines are pretty obvious--but it's just so damn compelling. Last season, things started to drag when the writers, for some reason, found the parents worthy of a full-fledged subplot, but now the 'rents have mysteriously disappeared and the action's heating up. Another, musical director David Liang, whose rapid-fire scats are probably the most impressive talent in the group, thinks through an arrangement for the next show. Sophomore Henry Rich, meanwhile, a special concentrator in aesthetics, secludes himself in the corner and reads T.S. Eliot poems into his dictaphone for later listening during his workout at the gym. Others pull...
...whom is Coming Out Day intended? Although the answer may seem obvious, the Harvard "festivities" are perplexing. What is the value of random, strident and possibly offensive posters? While it is true that existing conceptions of gender and sexual roles must be called into question, it is inappropriate to pursue this goal on Coming Out Day. To challenge an existing structure inherently entails conflict. For a closeted student, inner conflict is a daily reality. Why should he or she leave the safety of the closet in order to add external conflict to that already occurring in his or her mind...
...your company is a villain in one of history?s greatest public health disasters, it?s simply good business to flog yourself as painlessly and as publicly as possible ? before someone else does. That's what appears to have happened Tuesday when, in a stunning admission of the obvious, Philip Morris acknowledged that cigarette smoking isn?t safe, that cigarettes are addictive and that those who indulge are far more likely to develop certain kinds of cancer than nonsmokers. The tobacco giant?s web site, while still sprinkled liberally with friendly references to its Marlboro brand, now hosts a page...
